Ask yourself, “How do I get there?”

When you make a goal, the very next thought in your mind will probably be something, like,”Now, how do I get there?” Get a pen and paper, and I will give you an idea.

Ask yourself, “How do I get there?” Each time you answer the question, your answer should be a little more specific then the last answer. And the answer should require you to do some research.

When you are doing your research, it is entirely possible that you will make a new goal, or find something else that you want to go after. Let’s say, my goal is to become an engineer by the year 2022.

How do I get there? The first thing I will look at what the requirements are to become an engineer. I will look to see if there are Federal or State requirements to be an engineer. Do I need a license or permit? Do I need an educational degree? What kind of engineer do I want to be? Does being an engineer fit my personality?

The answers in the paragraph above will guide you to doing more research. By the time you ask your question the fifth time, you will be well on the way towards your goal. Sorry if you thought I was going to give you answers. But these are questions only YOU will be able to answer. It is YOUR dream. You have to go down that path.

Your paper should be pretty full by now. You might want to get a notepad. The research you do will more than likely lead you deeper into the profession that you seek.

Keep asking yourself, “How do I get there?” And write it down.

Pick a dream…and GO FOR IT!

I wish you all the best of luck.

Be grateful for the things you have

How do you spend your 24 hours in the day? Do you spend it being sorry that you are not where you want to be in life? For me, I have learned to be grateful for the things that I do have.

I have gotten into the habit of starting my day being grateful for what I have in life. I am grateful for my family, my friends, and having good health. I am also grateful that I have written my plans down. My written notes help bring back on course.

It is easy to be grateful for the the things I have. When I am sad, it is harder to get out of the “rut”. If I start my day off on a positive note, I have more energy and motivation to brush off my daily challenges.

Try it. Don’t read your emails or watch the TV news until you have listed at least 5 things you are grateful for in your life. Do this for 30 days. If you have to, write a note to yourself, “Before I start my day, I have to list 5 things I am grateful for”. I promise you that after a couple of weeks, you will want to do this without the note. You will notice a huge difference in your life.

When you start your day on a positive note, you have more energy to deal with the challenges.

I wish you much success.

I joined the New York Road Runners

It is time to go back to the basics for me. I have always been very fortunate in that I do not have any known allergies, or need medication for things. My formula has always been to get up in the morning, have a positive mental attitude, and do some type of physical exercise. Step one, I joined a gym, Blink Fitness. And now, for step 2, I have joined the New York Road Runners.

One of my projects will involve the New York Road Runners, and I will provide more details in a future blog.

I wish success for everyone.

Position Yourself for opportunities

You have to have a dream before you can be successful. I encourage EVERYONE to “Pick a Dream…and GO FOR IT!

However, frustration can set in when you do not achieve your goals when you want to achieve them. To offset the frustration, you should work on getting into a position where you can actually receive the blessings you are about to receive.

What is John writing about now? I hear you. Let me give you an example. Let’s say that I want to buy a house in the future. I have to get myself into a position to be able to purchase a house. I have to have a certain credit score. I have to have a certain debt to income ratio, and I have to have the income. These are not my requirements. These are the bank’s requirements. Because the bank is the business that will permit me to purchase the house. You can say that I have to “play their game.”

Frustration has caused so many people to stop trying to reach their dreams. It does not have to be that way. My suggestion is to keep working, step by step towards your goal. If you want to be a professional basketball player, but you are only 15 years old, don’t fret. Practice. Practice your foul shot. Practice something that might be considered your weakness. An opportunity will come your way. In the mean time, practice.

If you want to a specialist in any field, you have to practice and learn. Opportunities are everywhere. But you have to make the effort first.

I wish success for everyone.

Business is about gaining and retaining customers

I believe that business is about how well you can gain and retain customers. After you gain the customers, the profit will come. But customers have to come first.

For me, customer satisfaction is critical to success. I can probably charge a lot more for my services, but I am more interested in getting a higher number of customers. I tell myself that a company can take advantage of me one time. Since we live in America, I have the freedom to go to another company at any time. This is one freedom that I exercise.

I am grateful for having customers. I try to provide value with my services.

There are other companies that provide the same service I do. In fact, when I tell people I started a landscaping company, a lot of responses are, “There are a lot of landscaping companies on Long Island.” I am not competing with any other company. I only “compete” with myself, and my ability to provide excellent service to my customers. I have gained more and more customers each year, so far. And in turn, I am making more money each year. I am so grateful to my customers.

I wish all of you the best of luck.

Discipline is My the Word of the Day.

Happy Friday. Discipline is my word of the day. According to Mirriam-Webster, “discipline” is, “orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior.” Orderly or prescribed. When you set a goal for yourself, and go on your path to success, you normally want to go the most direct path to your desired goal. When you are disciplined, you are focused on a fine line. A fine line that is the shortest distance between two points. When you are disciplined, you have confidence to face the challenges on your way to achieving your goal.

In terms of sports, discipline can mean the difference between winning and losing a game. Teams practice plays in an effort to increase the chances of beating their opponent. Individuals practice to improve their particular assignment. Teams that are not so disciplined, tend to give up when the score is not in their favor. Sometimes, we see an athlete(s) not give 100%. The teams that are the most disciplined, go further than teams that are not so disciplined.

If you really want to reach your goal, you have to be disciplined enough to keep struggling through the challenges and opportunities. Life is full of challenges and opportunities. Tough times and easy times. Positive and negative. Both sides of that fine line that connect you to your “goal.” Your goal. Discipline takes you on that line past all the challenges, and past all the negativity.

Discipline is my word of the day. I wish you all much success.

I received my logo for Meherrin Footprints

I received my logo. Now, I have will build a platform to get the word out about my projects.

Sometimes, when you have an idea, you work hard and stress out about making it to a certain point. And then, when you reach the point, you think your work is over. However, the work is really just beginning. But it feels pretty good to make an accomplishment nonetheless.

Good luck to you all. I hope you have a wonderful day.
