The Content Clarity Blueprint Series – Part 2 of 5

Take Inventory before you build

This a Part 2 of a 5 part series. Part 1: You Don’t have a Content Problem.

In Part 1, you built your foundation. Your Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Value Proposition. That foundation is what every piece of content will get filtered through from here on out.

Before you go any further, it is worth pausing on what this series actually is: Five steps, done in order, that take you from, “I don’t know where to start” to, “I have a system that runs itself.” Skipping ahead costs you time later, Each part builds on the one before it. My basic idea is, “Plan before you build.”

This part is about inventory. Specifically, your tools. Your computer, your notes, everything scattered across browser tabs and sticky notes and half-finished documents.

This step will probably save you more time and money than anything else in this series. Here is why: there are advertisements everywhere promising the app, the platform, the “one-weird trick” that will fix your content problem. Most of them are distractions. They are built to sell what they want you to buy. Not necessarily what your specific project actually needs. Without an inventory of what you already have and what you actually need, you are an easy target for every ad that crosses your feed.

The Work: Answer These Five Questions:

Get specific. Vague answers here create vague content later.

  1. Identify your audience. Who specifically, are you taking to?
  2. Identify their pain point. What do they need help with? What is the problem keeping them up at night?
  3. Identify your product. What are you offering, and how does it solve the problem you named?
  4. How will you reach your customer? Social media, email, postcards, word of mouth? Where does your audience already spend their time, and how will they find you there?
  5. How will they pay you? What is the actual transaction? Simple as that.

Store it Where You Can Find It

Once you have answered these five questions, write them down somewhere you will actually find it again. A notebook. A folder on your desktop. A single doc. It doesn’t matter what you choose. It matters that it is categorized. A simple starting structure:

Business definitions-Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Value Proposition, Operating Procedures.

Assets– Ads, logos, brand colors, templates

Access-Login information, account details

Your exact categories will depend on your business. The goal is efficiency. When you need something, you know exactly where to look instead of digging through a year of scattered files.

This is inventory work, not content work. But it will make the content work fast. This is why I say, Plan before you build.

What Comes Next

Once your tools are organized and your five questions are answered, you are ready to start building the content practice around them. One that doesn’t rely on motivation or guesswork. That is exactly what the MastermindSuccess4u course path is built for. Starting with content creation fundamentals, then building the infrastructure behind it, then learning to scale and time-block so the system runs without burning you out.

But none of that works without the foundation and the inventory you are building right now in this series.
