Ask yourself, “How do I get there?”

When you make a goal, the very next thought in your mind will probably be something, like,”Now, how do I get there?” Get a pen and paper, and I will give you an idea.

Ask yourself, “How do I get there?” Each time you answer the question, your answer should be a little more specific then the last answer. And the answer should require you to do some research.

When you are doing your research, it is entirely possible that you will make a new goal, or find something else that you want to go after. Let’s say, my goal is to become an engineer by the year 2022.

How do I get there? The first thing I will look at what the requirements are to become an engineer. I will look to see if there are Federal or State requirements to be an engineer. Do I need a license or permit? Do I need an educational degree? What kind of engineer do I want to be? Does being an engineer fit my personality?

The answers in the paragraph above will guide you to doing more research. By the time you ask your question the fifth time, you will be well on the way towards your goal. Sorry if you thought I was going to give you answers. But these are questions only YOU will be able to answer. It is YOUR dream. You have to go down that path.

Your paper should be pretty full by now. You might want to get a notepad. The research you do will more than likely lead you deeper into the profession that you seek.

Keep asking yourself, “How do I get there?” And write it down.

Pick a dream…and GO FOR IT!

I wish you all the best of luck.

Be grateful for the things you have

How do you spend your 24 hours in the day? Do you spend it being sorry that you are not where you want to be in life? For me, I have learned to be grateful for the things that I do have.

I have gotten into the habit of starting my day being grateful for what I have in life. I am grateful for my family, my friends, and having good health. I am also grateful that I have written my plans down. My written notes help bring back on course.

It is easy to be grateful for the the things I have. When I am sad, it is harder to get out of the “rut”. If I start my day off on a positive note, I have more energy and motivation to brush off my daily challenges.

Try it. Don’t read your emails or watch the TV news until you have listed at least 5 things you are grateful for in your life. Do this for 30 days. If you have to, write a note to yourself, “Before I start my day, I have to list 5 things I am grateful for”. I promise you that after a couple of weeks, you will want to do this without the note. You will notice a huge difference in your life.

When you start your day on a positive note, you have more energy to deal with the challenges.

I wish you much success.

I joined the New York Road Runners

It is time to go back to the basics for me. I have always been very fortunate in that I do not have any known allergies, or need medication for things. My formula has always been to get up in the morning, have a positive mental attitude, and do some type of physical exercise. Step one, I joined a gym, Blink Fitness. And now, for step 2, I have joined the New York Road Runners.

One of my projects will involve the New York Road Runners, and I will provide more details in a future blog.

I wish success for everyone.

Position Yourself for opportunities

You have to have a dream before you can be successful. I encourage EVERYONE to “Pick a Dream…and GO FOR IT!

However, frustration can set in when you do not achieve your goals when you want to achieve them. To offset the frustration, you should work on getting into a position where you can actually receive the blessings you are about to receive.

What is John writing about now? I hear you. Let me give you an example. Let’s say that I want to buy a house in the future. I have to get myself into a position to be able to purchase a house. I have to have a certain credit score. I have to have a certain debt to income ratio, and I have to have the income. These are not my requirements. These are the bank’s requirements. Because the bank is the business that will permit me to purchase the house. You can say that I have to “play their game.”

Frustration has caused so many people to stop trying to reach their dreams. It does not have to be that way. My suggestion is to keep working, step by step towards your goal. If you want to be a professional basketball player, but you are only 15 years old, don’t fret. Practice. Practice your foul shot. Practice something that might be considered your weakness. An opportunity will come your way. In the mean time, practice.

If you want to a specialist in any field, you have to practice and learn. Opportunities are everywhere. But you have to make the effort first.

I wish success for everyone.

All Lives Matter.

All lives matter.

We live in the United States of America. There are a lot of people who fought and died to protect and defend our way of life. People in Congress and the President should realize there are much greater issues at hand then closing the government and refusing to pay government workers.

What about the children of the workers. How do you think they feel? What kind of example are you setting for the children to not be paid for the work that was done?

Unfortunately, the people who are not being paid for the work they are doing have nothing to do with building a wall at the border, between Mexico and the United States.

To resolve an issue, you have to determine the root cause of the issue. Right now, we actually have two issues.

One issue is that government workers are not getting paid, and experiencing serious hardship, financially and emotionally. The second issue is the President of the United States wants to build a wall to prevent people from bypassing the legal entry points along our border.

All lives matter. Government workers should not be held hostage or treated like slaves, for ANY reason. Separate the issues, reopen the government, pay the government workers, and find a way to better secure all of our borders. How about the legal ports of entry? How about the internet? We all want border control. All around, not just between USA and Mexico.

All lives matter.

Business is about gaining and retaining customers

I believe that business is about how well you can gain and retain customers. After you gain the customers, the profit will come. But customers have to come first.

For me, customer satisfaction is critical to success. I can probably charge a lot more for my services, but I am more interested in getting a higher number of customers. I tell myself that a company can take advantage of me one time. Since we live in America, I have the freedom to go to another company at any time. This is one freedom that I exercise.

I am grateful for having customers. I try to provide value with my services.

There are other companies that provide the same service I do. In fact, when I tell people I started a landscaping company, a lot of responses are, “There are a lot of landscaping companies on Long Island.” I am not competing with any other company. I only “compete” with myself, and my ability to provide excellent service to my customers. I have gained more and more customers each year, so far. And in turn, I am making more money each year. I am so grateful to my customers.

I wish all of you the best of luck.

Be a Student, But not Necessarily a Follower.

Hello,

I recommend everyone who wants to achieve a goal, to be a student, not necessarily a follower. I say this because we all travel our own path in life. There are many paths, but none are exactly like YOUR path. So, you want to learn as much as you can from as many sources as you can. But you don’t have to necessarily follow blindly one particular philosophy.

The beauty of America, is that we ALL have the option to be socially and economically mobile. There is so much information in libraries, on the internet, and from various other sources. We can learn anything we want to. It doesn’t matter what your background is, you have the opportunity to go to any library, open any book in the library, and learn about a particular subject. You can use a computer (for free) to gain access to so much information. It is truly amazing.

I see a lot of different people in my travels. I see people interacting with others in different capacities. I see tutors helping students. I see supervisors mentoring workers. I also see teammates help other teammates, in an effort to win the competition. Sometimes I see parents guiding their children.

Regardless of your intent, or your situation, you will come in contact with someone who is going to have an effect on you. It is inevitable. The effects and changes to you might not be noticeable, or they might be enormous. Human nature is such that we learn from our senses and experiences.

Keep an open mind when you interact with people. You never know what kind of lesson you will learn. Don’t be judgmental BEFORE you speak to a person. In my travels, there are a lot of people who look at me, and put me in a category. But after a few visits, they realize that I shouldn’t be in “that category.” Some people are afraid to meet new people. We are trained to not speak to strangers. We are taught to follow. I do not want to be a follower. I am a student of life. I listen, read, and absorb as much as I can.

Pick a dream…and GO FOR IT!

I wish you all the best of luck.
